Before her iconic resurgence in Kanye Wests’s “Fade” video, Teyana Taylor was struggling with breaking out as the talented R&B artist that she IS. With a couple of mentionable features and a solid debut album (VII) released back in 2014, her participation in the culture has been heinously overlooked. Despite her newfound fame, and upper echelon connections, Taylor’s sophmore album “K.T.S.E” highlights the singer’s vocal chops and undeniable talent. The eight-track album, fully produced by Kanye West presents a left-of soulful touch that I think is particularly refreshing and a great introduction to her fans who may not know Teyana Taylor from her music. Taylor delivers minimal, yet radio ready tracks with songs like “Gonna Love Me” and the Lauryn Hill-esque “Issues/Hold On.” And Taylor still achieves her sexy, raunchy R&B with “3way” and “Hurry.” While “K.T.S.E” has received a portion of criticism, specifically by Taylor for being underwhelming- it is a short, and sweet display of what “Petunia” can do. After a series of radio shows, with mentions that Taylor could be releasing an extended version, the future of Teyana Taylor is still up in the air.
AYO, so “LONG OVERDUE” is a section on my blog for artists who I review late (I like to let the hype die before listening) or has a major gap and hype around (their) next album. If ya got some suggestions of artists I should review, leave ’em in the comments!
